Throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, U.S. society (especially in the South) was segregated due to the Jim Crow laws. In this lesson students will use their prior knowledge of Jim Crow laws to learn more about the effects of these laws on the lives of African Americans. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the Jim Crow era, students will be analyzing an image related to segregated schooling, making inferences about the image, and also synthesizing information from other primary sources related to segregated schooling.
