Students investigate newspaper reports of the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine in the Havana Harbor searching for sensationalism and yellow journalism. The students will participate in higher order thinking to examine and analyze the newspaper headlines and political cartoons. After the analyses, the middle school students act as reporters creating their own headline for the U.S.S. Maine explosion.
